It is not somebody else's problem. The Earth we live in matters to us as individuals, families, parents and citizens. It is our responsibility. As a young startup enterprise, Origin Bulk Store PLT has a big dream to implement an eco business model, mindful of waste generated in the production and distribution process.
The company was founded with the mission to provide a sustainable alternative for grocery and gifting to the community. We believe that it's not too late; as consumers, we can still revert to our origins, adopting some lifestyle choices that existed during our parents' and grandparents' time, when the single-use plastic and throw-away culture did not exist.
We believe in an ethical business model which provides fresh groceries and eco personal care for our family and friends without the use of single-use plastic, which Mother Earth cannot digest.
We have devoted a big portion of our time to finding the best grocers, while also sourcing and cleaning the reusable jars, thus saving them from ending up in landfills where they would lay for years, never to decompose. As mothers, we never compromise on the cleanliness and hygiene of our jars and containers, ensuring our cleaning process is conducted using eco methods.
From sourcing products, to packing and delivering our orders, we stringently adhere to the 5R principles of zero waste lifestyle – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot.
We hope visitors to our site will enjoy e-shopping with our grocery and gift options, while having peace of mind that they are not leaving unnecessary trash on our Mother Earth. We believe in closing the loop on waste in our production and consumerism line, and advancing towards a circular economy for future generations.
Huay Ping is a passionate zero-waste advocate who knows that urging her BFFs to bring their containers along when buying groceries is a big challenge. Nonetheless, she hopes that by being their grocer, she can play a part in reducing plastic waste in other households.
“Running an eco bulk store was never going to be effortless. It would be easier to sell prepacked groceries. Besides the packaging and delivery options, we also have to ensure our products are stored optimally to prevent items like nuts from turning rancid. In spite of that, we have chosen the path less travelled, mainly because of our mission to contribute to the new normal.’’
Swee Yun is a town planner. She believes in building a sustainable community and environment, not only through policies, but also through consumers, starting with individuals being given the option for an eco lifestyle.
”We believe that having the option for eco e-shopping is an effective way to cultivate the new normal eco lifestyle in families. Playing a part in developing a circular economy and closing the loop on waste materials means a lot to us and we are glad to contribute in whatever way we can.”
